An ecocentric radically reflexive approach to walking the “Earth System talk” in sustainability education

Educators for sustainability are reflective practitioners trying to create and hold space for radical imaginations to consider future generations and the Earth System that supports our livelihoods. Rather than describing the artefacts of our practice, in this chapter we show how we seek to give voice and space to an eco-centric perspective, so that symbolism and new social imaginaries may permeate and enable emergence of new ways of seeing business, being business people, and working with business. Social imaginaries are spaces where radical imagination exercises ecocentrism through a social process, whereby individuals and collectives call into question, reflect on, and create different ways of doing business within the Earth System. We illuminate how we create space for Earth System talk by walking a radically reflexive path in embedding sustainability in two Australian Universities’ curricula. We share our own personal sustainability actions and how we enlist our students to engage in sustainability actions that create positive, collective change
